Cenntenial Secondary - 2011

Team Name: Environmental Club

Team Type: Club

Campaign Goal:

To make recycling more efficient and easier for Centennial.

What did we do?

Replaced old cardboard box paper and beverage recycling with colour coded green and blue plastic recycling boxes.

The Best Part

Recycling was made easier for students and staff at Centennial and less recycling was put in the garbage.

Advice

Our bins we bought were a bit big. We made sure we bought bins from a Canadian company. Make sure it is clear which bins are for paper and which are for beverage containers with stickers!

Comments about the Campaign

Liked that there was a colour coded system so that placing recyclables into containers was clear.

Did We Reach our Goal?

Yes. Recycling was made easier. Teachers were picking less garbage out of recycle bins. The students who do recycling at the school found it easier to collect recycling because there was less mixed paper, beverage containers and garbage.

What we are most proud of

The students who did all the grunt work, labeling containers, making the graphics for the stickers and delivering the bins to the classrooms.

What we are planning to work on next

More efficient hand dryers in the bathrooms and education regarding energy waste.
