DC PlanetDestination Conservation involves participation from the school district administration and facilities departments, community partners as well as school teams of administrators, teachers, parents, students and custodial staff. Over a 3-year program cycle, 10 to 15 participating schools in a district build a conservation team in the school and undertake conservation campaigns. Students take the lead, creating their own projects, supported by the adult members of the team. Each school sends delegates to two training workshops each year to help them learn more about environmental topics and build skills to engage their peers in conservation behaviours. At the end of the year, schools present their campaigns at a year-end event and have an opportunity to share and learn from each other’s work. Years one through three of DC are themed energy, water and waste avoidance. A custodial training program is also offered that mirrors the student program. An optional advanced program for years four through six are available to interested districts. Workshop themes include: at home, food and sustainability, in our community, transportation, the future of energy and in our world. For a full overview of the program and how it works, please download the resource DC 1-2-3. Learn more about the school district, school and sponsor partner’s roles in each of the getting started pages. When you’re ready, contact us for more information and support for becoming part of DC.
